Dental or dentistry is a specialization or branch of medical sciences, that deals with oral health. To put it simply, Dental courses can be referred to as the study of teeth, gums, and other organs in the mouth. Generally, Dental courses are taught at medical colleges at degree level, such as Bachelors or Masters in Dental Surgeries. A number of students or aspirants plan to pursue Dental Diploma or Dental Certification courses. Dental is a vast branch of Medicine that teaches students about the various oral organs, their structures, dental anatomy, diseases, and their diagnosis and treatment. Dental syllabus, course curriculum, and specializations vary from course to course and institute to institute. However, the core curriculum or Dental subjects are the same. After completing Dental courses, students will become qualified dentists and can either practice independently, or be associated with a government or private Dental hospital or clinic. Dental students who are inclined toward academics can opt for higher studies such as MDS or pursue Dental Certificate courses and follow an academic career. The duration of the Dental courses varies from program to program and also according to the levels. BDS, which is a full-time UG level course is of four-year duration. MDS or the Master of Dental Surgery, which is a postgraduate program, is of two to three years duration. The Dental Diploma level programs are for two years, whereas the duration of Dental Certificate programs is six months to one year.
