FPD's academic programs focus on management and professional development across Africa and have reached approximately 480,000 participants to date. To reduce barriers to quality education, most students enroll in FPD studies at no or low cost. FPD has also organized 70 national and international conferences attended by more than 200,000 participants. During the coronavirus pandemic, FPD supported the international response to COVID-19 by creating multiple online courses that have been attended by more than 40,000 participants since the lockdown began. FPD's focus on innovation includes demonstrating the art of what is possible through pilot programs, particularly in support of universal health care models. FPD established the 1st health sector think tank in Southern Africa focusing on HIV and conducts an extensive research program funded through several NIH grants focusing on TB, STIs, new health technologies, and mental health. FPD has implemented several projects to strengthen systems funded by major donors in health, basic education, and criminal justice. FPD's Health System Strengthening Project supported the initiation of life-saving antiretroviral therapy for 770,000 people living with AIDS, and FPD provided more than 12 million free HIV tests, improved access to services for victims of sexual assault, and promoted literacy development.
