A bachelor's degree, dental school, and a specialized post-doctorate degree in orthodontics are prerequisites for becoming an orthodontist. The Masters of Dental Surgery in Orthodontics (MDS) is the post-doctoral degree. Human dental and oral health are topics covered in the three-year MDS program. The courses are intended to give the trainee the skills and knowledge necessary to practice some basic orthodontics and, upon completion, to pursue further apprenticeship toward advanced orthodontics with intelligence. A range of treatment philosophies are presented to the students, with a focus on pre-adjusted appliances and associated techniques. Seminars on daily diagnosis and treatment planning are led by supervising clinical faculty, who share their philosophical views. The state-of-the-art orthodontic clinical facility at the school offers demonstrations and uses of a range of clinical techniques.
